Potemkin: Rivet-Gun by ionen Potemkin: Rivet-Gun by ionen

Evaporator: [link]

Not as detailed as the Evaporator, but a functional little weapon. Has 3 muzzles/nozzles on the front so it shoots in a triangle.

I know nail guns and rivet-guns aren't super-unique in horror games, or action games, but they're cool, man.

Rivet guns and nail guns are awesome because there's something so tactile about them.  Personally, I think that it's because somewhere deep inside, everyone who ever had a little toy dart gun as a child remembers using compressed air to shoot foam darts, and feels the nostalgia of upgrading to throwing bigass nails or rivets with what is essentially the same mechanism.

Nerf's older, ex-convict brother.  ^_^

Uh, just FYI, that's not a clip.

A clip is used to load rounds into a magazine, a magazine loads rounds into a gun. Pretty much every repeating weapon ever has a magazine, but clips went out of style in the mid '70s. You'll still see them in SKSs, Vz. 58s, etc., and the military uses them to transport ammo and preload magazines, but they're old technology.

Very cool, and I hate to be "that Guy" but you labeled Clip on the gun, should it not be Magazine instead of Clip? Just saying because there is a difference.

You are correct. Clip is sort of the "generalized video game" term I'm always use to.

lol. The best 'rivet' gun I ever wielded was the Javelin gun from Dead Space 2. That gave my enemies a most...wait for it....riveting experience.

Cool art man!!

Personally I liked the nail gun in FEAR more. Because you'd headshot them and they'd go flying while yelling "Shhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiettt" in slow-mo.

there's an interesting rifle that fires bolts called the Boltor (from Warframe). It's bolts have a similar effect

Actually, If you need an idea for another gun...well, there's nothing quite like a flamethrower, though I might reccomend something like the Ceph Incinerator from Crysis 3 which throws 'fireballs', only instead of igniting things, they explode into a splatter of burning fluid...or better yet...

wait...I've got it...a FLASER. A laser that's basically invisible but which can combust most materials. A heat ray. Cutting torch at high strength, but at low strength...welll....XD

Actually there's 5 weapon, and 1 of them is a blow-torch or sorts, although I haven't figured out all the details yet. Something close-ranged and focused.

kewl. kewl....hmmm be sure you have a good control scheme when you make the game. Having to stretch your fingers too much and having to remember what all the buttons do is an annoyance that drives most people away.

how'd you make this? built in a 3D program and tailored in photoshop? the perspective looks waaay perfect

I took the silhouette, blew it up, put some perspective on it in photoshop and then created the backside using the same tactic. I connected the various lines, etc.

It's a lot less work than building a 3d model, and more practical.

*Mini-Rant* I always hated the idea of someone using a 3D model to make a weapon concept so that it can then be built. In college a fellow student would build fully detailed 3d models and then trace them and the teacher loved him. Spending 20 hours to build a model to make a concept is about as backwards as possible.

I'm wading into concept work for one of my personal projects - thanks for sharing your process here! It's straightforward, no nonsense, and saves time. Appreciate it!

Nailguns moreso than rivet guns. Rivet guns are fairly rare actually... I can only remember a single game where you got to use one and that's Bioshock 2. A Nail gun on the other hand, as shown in Mythbusters, would only do superficial damage either way unless fired at point blank.

For sure. The concept is more of bolts/rivets used on metal bulkheads.

So obviously it'd do some damage, yeah. Although for some reason I'd expect a rivet gun to be bigger.
